Default Lifter noise when hot on hiway

This 2.9 is very quiet until it gets hot. Has anyone had that issue. It's a 91 4+4 with 275 k.

Lifter noise seems to be common on these engines when they get old. When I got my truck it had noise all the time. After a rebuild and new lifters the noise went away.
My guess: because of the high mileage there is enough bearing wear to cause enough pressure loss when the oil is hot that the lifters are not keeping pumped up all the way.

IDK about oil pressure always causing lifter noise. My Miata had it from day one because the OEM clearanced the lifters a bit oddly and the TSB was never done. And I think every Honda motorcycle is designed to clack to hell.

One of the reasons I got into forums was every post was "HEADGASKET!" or "REBUILD"

Normally I find lifters clack because of the lifters themselves sticking tho, easy solution is $2 bucks ATF. When it's low oil pressure or wear that's normally at start up when warm.

But we still need to "hear" the noise. It could be a rattle or something like a whirl the OP hasn't clarified.

Hey ok. I start it cold and it's nice and quiet I can drive it for like 15 20 and it starts ticking so loud it's painfull to listen to. So I stop and the gage hits bottom. I tap the gas it pops back up but still a hell of allot of lifter noise under hood. I let idol for five more min. Oil gage normal but still heavy lifter noise. I can still drive it for short periods without any noise. Thanks for the replays !
