Default no oil pressure, gettin hot

So I'm driving down the road when I notice the oil pressure drops off to nothing. Then my normally cool running 87' starts heating up. I wasn't far from home and I got the truck there before it got too hot.
I'm guessing oil pump...could it be anything else? Anyone had this happen before? Anyone ever replace an oil pump in a 2.9 V6? Is it a tough job? Any insight would be great.

The pick up screen could be plugging up..

To change the oil pump, you must remove the pan. The engine cross member is directly in the way of getting the pan off. One option is to raise the engine up real high, you'll have it close to pulling, remove the pan and do the repair. Or pull the motor out and do it on a stand, that is the way I would go so I could check other stuff while it's apart (since it was technically low), and it would be 20x easier.

The PITAs are exhaust bolts (they like to snap right off, might go for disconnecting the manifolds from the y-pipe), spring-lok fuel lines (but fuel rail can be removed quicker than you're probably going to get the rusty quick-disconnects apart - and the springs tend to snap) and the power steering lines if they are rusted (this can also be removed and set off to the side in the engine bay). Also A/C if equipped.
