I'm going to remove my A/C unit. since I bought the truck this summer it hasn't had the a/c charged, so I can live without it, and (I hope) take some load off the engine whole freeing up some real estate under the hood.
Any tips beige I get started?

The A/C doesn't load the engine unless the compressor is running.
If it is to open up space under the hood just remove everything from the evaporator forward. Hoses, compressor, wiring harness, condenser. You will need to put in a spacer where the mount is pinched between the power steering mounts. (The metal plate and the casting).
If you want to remove the evaporator you will need to buy a plenum from a non A/C truck.

I know this is probably all elementary to most, but you gotta start somewhere.

The compressor wont run unless you turn it on, charged or not you control the compressor.
