my pickup "86, 2.9". cuts out while accelerating, and just in general. is there something else besides the filter that could make it do that? starts right up, runs, but always cutting out. thanks for what ever info I can get.

I went chasing a problem like this in my BMW last year. I tried fuel injection cleaner with Shell 91 octane, spark plugs, spark plug wires, transmission flush & filter, fuel filter, and fuel pump. Eventually I gave up and my mechanic said it was a hole in the airbox messing with the MAF sensor telling my ECU to stop accelerating.

Could be any of those things, could be something else.

Fuel pump, or regulator could cause this.

I gotta 88 & had same problem. Check ur o2 sensor or sensors if u have 2. That was my problem.

U can do a quik check on it by unplugging it. If that's the problem it'll run normal. Might get a CEL but it'll run normal.
