Default No oil pressure and loud ticking.

So I have a 89 ranger 2.9L 6 cylinder. It started out that when you started it it would tick a little then go away. Then went to ticking at startup and a little while driving and kept doing that and then started it when at a stop and oil pressure would drop when I would shift. Then I lost all oil pressure and very loud ticking constantly. I haven't started it since it happened afraid to do any damage to the engine. Any ideas what this could be. Maybe oil pump or bearings?

first i assume you have oil in motor at proper level. although unlikely it is possible pressure relief valve for filter has seized shut and the filter is plugged. after that oil pump and then bearings. the oil pump has a pickup screen that is in the oil reservoir in the bottom of the motor that can plug. good luck

If an oil seal is bad, you will have oil every where, but what top seal are you talking about?

it may be the valve cover gaskets.. 99% of the time even if a valve cover is leaking profusely it wont cause loss of oil pressure until all the oil has been pushed out.
