how do i do it? i was told to pull a chip or a plug before i make any adjustments, anybody got a clue as to what that would be and where to find it? also, how many degrees should i set it to? i might just do the truffle shuffle for answers

10 Degrees

I am guessing they told you to remove #1 spark plug to verify Top Dead Center?

no, they didn't, my manual doesn't actually have timing adjustment for fuel injected motors, so all i really have is what i can gather from various internet articles, how would i go about verifying tdc?

here's how the article read

"timing is 10 Degrees pull the spout connector before setting the timing it is a small square block in the wining harness. Acts like pulling the vacuum hose on older cars and trucks"

Easy way to verify TDC.

Pull #1 spark plug have some one turn the engine over by turning the crank shaft. Easy way to turn crank is put the bolt back in and use a socket and ratchet.

Once your finger starts to be blown out of the hole your at TDC top dead center. If it is being sucked in your not there yet

J-e-e-e-f-f-f -then you don't have the right manua-a-a-al.

Do yourself a solid and get a Haynes manual for your truck.

The one you need is titled "Ford Ranger and Bronco II 1983-1992."

This is the info you would use to find it pretty much anywhere including the library: ISBN 1563920662

the bolt is at the base of the distributer where it goes into the block on the back of the motor. you have to remove the spout connector and then you can set the timing.

Looks like you're loosening a nut to the lower intake manifold (it's a 2 sided stud to help install the intake perfectly - there's 2 of them). Try and torque that back to where it needs to be as best as you can, do not over tighten.

I believe the bolt is more on the passenger side, it's in the very back of the engine where you think you can't reach (the bolt goes into the block, it's the lower flat section directly behind the distributor). It's a 13mm. It will be a bear.

I usually pull it out when the engine off, turn the engine on (or crank it depending on what you're doing), set the timing, tighten the dist, check it again, turn it off, then put the SPOUT back in once I have verified it's right.
