Hey guys, i have 2.9 xlt ranger and was wondering how can i give it some more power. Are there turbo kits; superchargers; bigger engine swaps out there; maybe and electronic power chip??? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Turbo kits? No. But can be fabricated.

Super charger kits? I think at one time, but you'd be better off fabricating something.

Most forced induction setups will require you do something with the engine management depending on boost.

Bigger engine? Yes, 4.0L. But it's not *all* direct bolt in (but a lot of it is), and nothing will be besides another 2.9L. Trans bell pattern is the same but you sill still want the 4.0L trans (also wiring, etc).

Electronic power chip? Yes, they exist (Jet I think), but no experience with them. I wouldn't expect a big gain here.

There isn't an easy way to get a whole lot of power out of this engine, but it is possible with deep enough pockets or access to stuff. It's an engine out of production since '92, aftermarket for this engine is not like it was and it's slowly going away. IMO, best to either go with something more "fresh" like a 4.0L or 5.0L with a better aftermarket.

Regearing is also a good option if you haven;t already with bigger tires.

yes i dont think the previous owner changed gearing, but thats the reason i can hit 100mph on a long streach. my dad has a 4 cylinder cummins that he will let me have, but i will need a bigger radiator,a transmission that will match the engine, i doubt my acsels will take that kind of power and also it will take a veeeery looong time to put it all together and make it run perfect! It will just be easier to just buy a new diesel truck! lol
