Thank you for your advice
After much experimentation and cussing, I was able to remove the fuel pump using a short socket and a tiny breaker bar. If I had the tools and time, I would have done it the easy way. This 2.8l engine is a nightmare: Too many emission controls for the engine to run with any amount of efficiency or performance. On the other hand; It hauls my stuff from point A to point B.
If you ever have the misfortune to have to do this yourself, I'll post the step-by-step w/ photos.

you have the option of going duraspark to remove that problematic engine management they put on those engine. just a basic carbed set up is what you'd end up with if you'd want to simplify.

Already disabled most of the emissions controls including egr. The truck was left in a barn for several years before I got it. My Uncle bought it new and sold it to my Dad after he had trouble. I'd like it to pull a small trailer but I've had problems just keeping it driveable. Thanks for your suggestion, Psychopete!
