Just completed a frame swap on my 1990 ranger,, turned the key and she fired! but no power. exhaust is all new. no leaks, compression ok. new plugs, wires, distributor total exhaust.... fuel psi ok too, at the rail. after one trip arround the block the cat was red hot.( new cat) she is running rich. new O2 sensor too. can the engine run smoothly with bad timing. i have not checked that yet. any clues what to check next would be helpfull

Sounds like the timing may be slow.

just checked the timing with the spout connector removed. it red 10 degrees. seem that the timing is correct, all new plugs, wires cap rotor, fuel psi right, but no fricken power and it the cat glows red. new cat too. i only alowed it to get that hot once. there is maybe fifteen minutes total on the brand new cat. where o where do i look next?
