Youre not a Klingon from StarTrek...dont get all hung up on respect and honor....words are words....only resort to physical violence as a last resort and if he physically attacks u.

I had a guy in highschool approach me and said he heard i was insulting his mother...i said whatever i dont know your mom and wouldnt say anything about her....he hit me in the back as i walked away....i ended up breaking his nose and his arm..
Then 2 weeks later he approached me and said that the person who told him i had insulted his mother admitted that it was a lie...he said he was sorry for striking me.
I never had any other issues.
