If there's imperfections in the hood I would recommend wet sanding the hood with 600 if the imperfections come out then prep the hood for paint. spray it with a sealer then you can paint as your wish. If your just spraying basecoat and no clear "cuz it will match your truck" that's a no no. Basecoat has absolutely no strength to hold up to anything you must apply clear but to achieve the dullness you can add a flattening agent to your clear coat to give you your finished product.
