I agree that calculating apparent power instead of real power for the strict purpose of seeing a change is adequate in most situations. That being said I only ever clamped an ammeter and can't recall any significant voltage measurements on my outputs. I did religiously meter my supply voltage though.
In all honesty, if your amp is making 400 watts, your box rise is in double digits, and your supply is dwindling into the singles, it doesn't matter so long as that number on the screen keeps going up.

Considering I'm running a single alt with potential current draw of over 2000 amps I'm not terribly concerned with my 12.88v drop on a burp at this point. I had an issue with my input signal I was able to fix and rescope for this particular change. At this point I'm concerned with cutting my 1.58 reactive down. Slightly over 400 watts in this case though lol.
