I would say to stay away from that mixing tire size stuff, i would stay within a size or two of your stock size and try to go for narrower rather than wider, especially for slush. A good tire for winter is a cooper weathermaster ST2. I had a pair on my 2wd ranger, and my focus, both of which preformed very well in the snow. Another decent tire for snow, that i am currently running year-round on my truck is the master-craft courser MSR.
