Yeah, I use it.
It's actually dielectric grease – It helps seal the boot from moisture & water intrusion. Plus, it makes the boot a little easier to remove when the time comes, but its main benefit is the moisture prevention.
A little on each end of each wire smeared around the inside of the boot is all that is needed.
