That junk was wired all wrong and the subs were in a shared chamber so the 1 that was left bottomed out while it's voice coils were melting.

NO ! 'Max' or 'peak' mean nothing ! Match RMS only, use a lowpass filter, use a subsonic filter if using a ported sub enclosure, and set the gains correctly.
