I was able to pull codes using some spare wire and a 12v landscape bulb (qualitiy backyard engineering) got egr not opening and o2 sensor codes.
I pulled off the egr valve and found it was full of crud, the passage to the intake is all blocked up. I figure if the egr is clogged, that will trip off the o2 sensor and call for extra fuel to compensate. I will pull off the trottle body and clean out the passage and replace the egr valve. Going to try to get home early today to do it. I think this may solve the problem. I will post with the results as soon as possible. Thanks for the reply, it made me figure how to pull codes and I would not have found this blockage otherwise. dmk.
